Swanborough lake is a privately owned three lake coarse fishing complex, ideally suited to the pleasure angler. Details of the three lake are as follows:
* Carp Lake is 3.5 acres with grass carp [to 29lb], mirror carp [to 26lb], common carp [to 24lb], and ghost carp [to 22lb].
* Tench Lake is a two acre lake holding tench [to 5lb], bream [to 7lb], perch [to 3lb] and roach and rudd [to 1lb].
* Decoy Lake measures 1.5 acres and has chub [to 6lb], perch [to 5lb] plus roach and rudd [to 1lb].

The bigger carp tend to fall for ledgered boilies or pellets. Pop-ups and meat also work well as do floating crust or dog biscuits. Try float fishing corn or meat for tench and bream, caster and maggot for silver fish, ledgered or float fished meat or casters for chub or lobworm for the perch.

Rules:
* night fishing by appointment only
* carp anglers must have a 40 inch landing net and unhooking mat
* day tickets apply from 7am to 8pm or dusk in winter
* no tins or litter
* no keepnets

Reader feedback - August 2006:
"Your site advertises swanborough fishery rate as £8 per day £7 disabled and OAP the balifff on site now says the rate is £10 per day with no concessions. I take this to mean that an able bodied angler now pays £2 extra per day yet a disabled angler pays £3 per day extra. I am sure Angling Times who are running a campaign to get more anglers on the bank would take a very dim view of this attitude."

Thanks to Tony Bennett for pointing this out. I suggest that anyone planning to visit Swanborough rings ahead to check current prices.

Reader feedback - December 2006:
Swanborough lake is too expensive. Period. £10 for a day's fishing? No ta, I'd rather go sea fishing.

Reader feedback - June 2007:
Swanbrough lakes are way to expensive for day ticket. Last time I fished this water, the small rudd attacked any bait you fished with, and they were small rudd !! Very frustrating, over rated venue, :((

Reader feedback - November 2007:
What can I say about Swanborough Fishery near Lewes? All it is is a hole in the ground, not well stocked and the times I and my freinds have fished there we have all drawn blanks. And its not just us !! Many other people are finding this. Perhaps its about time he put some more stock in with some bigger fish - no wonder people are going else where.

Reader feedback - November 2007:
Fished the water on Saturday 24th Nov 2007. Mid afternoon a number of people with shotguns arrived and started shooting ducks and pheasants around the lakes. Some of the birds fell in the lake I was fishing and dogs were sent in to retrieve them. Shot from the guns was falling in my swim and hitting my umbrella. Other anglers present said this happens regularly. Please don't take young children to this water as they may find this distressing. I came away with the impression that the owners are more interested in maximising income rather than looking after the customers that they have. The water should be closed to anglers when they have a shooting party booked. This is common sense if only on the grounds of safety.

Reader feedback - December 2007:
I fished there the same as when the duck hut was on I was in the swim right next to where they were all parked and the ducks where all falling around me one hit my car, which I must say I took home for dinner. They should not be allowed to do this like Martin Oates said. People that are not happy with the way the owner runs the place should drop a note in the box by the notice board ... if enough people do this he may change his ways.

Reader feedback - April 2008 :
Fished the tench and bream lake at Swanborough yesterday. Caught approximately 20 bream some over 4lb and nearly as many tench, largest over 4lb. A good days sport. Nice spot with good veiws to the castle and the downs. Shame about the shooting match next door.
