Overview: The fishing remains a touch hard whilst water temperatures sit below 5 degree’s, which is generally regarded as the feeding trigger, although fish will feed below this as is demonstrated by the fish caught this week, but not in large numbers. With temperatures due to finally increase over the coming days, we fully expect sport to improve and once water temperatures move beyond the critical 5 degree’s, we are confident that all lakes will respond accordingly!

Old Bury Lake: Predator fishing - Generally sport has been tough continuing on from the Christmas freeze up, although the few dedicated anglers who have made the effort, have found a few obliging pike and zander, which have generally tended to be smaller fish. Tactics remain much the same as in previous weeks with float and ledger both working on the day with small dead baits, both sea and freshwater working. Whilst roach, trout and lamprey section continue to catch the odd fish, larger sea baits are accounting for a few better fish.
General Fishing: - Another hard week for the few general anglers who braved the freezing conditions, with just small bags being caught from the front bank, although surprisingly this was from the middle section and not the deeper water. The recent stocking of bream, skimmers and roach has certainly helped sport with these smaller fish making up the weights at present, although surprisingly, the odd tench has also been caught. Tactics remain much the same as in previous weeks with float, pole and feeder working on the day, depending on the peg. Baits currently need to be small with single maggot, caster or worm taking fish.
Bonds Lake: Whilst few anglers have fished bonds this week, those that did make the effort were pleasantly surprised with better than expected sport early week catching a few reasonable fish despite poor conditions. Whilst all methods have been working, the pole and feeder have probably been the best methods with smaller baits such as maggot, caster and worm fished with small hooks being best, although corn did account for a couple of bigger bags.
Milton Lake: Like Bonds, Milton responded early week to the slight increase in temperature with a few anglers catching small but well deserved bags of roach, rudd and perch along with the odd tench. Small baits are not surprisingly working best with both maggot, caster and worm all working on the day. The fishing will be further enhanced following the stocking of circa 3000 small carp in the next week or so.
