Jubilee River in Southwest London finally opened to day ticket anglers at the end of 2004. After nearly 8 years in the making, the venue leaves the River Thames just below Taplow Weir in Maidenhead and flows southeast until it rejoins the Thames just above Black Potts Weir at Windsor and Eton.

The venue offers 11km of fishing and holds a natural stock of fish including bream, carp, chub, roach, perch, dace and bleak that had migrated from the Thames during the building of the flood relief channel. The river has weir pools, deep glides, shallows and islands and has purpose built swims all along its length. The footpath is also ideal for disabled access, being wide, flat and hard surfaced. There are a number of disabled swims available for wheelchair anglers at the Lake End Road section.

Sadly though, confusion still remains as to where anglers are allowed to fish. The fishing rights have been awarded to Thames valley A.A. [an amalgamation of local clubs] who will control the sale of day tickets from the bank and provide bailiffs for the venue. Due partly to this confusion, coupled with reports of hard fishing with little being caught have meant virtually empty banksides. Steve Rowland from Old Windsor AC [one of the clubs involved in the new association] still believes the venue has great potential although it will take time for fish shoals to become established as more pople fish the water.

Ivan Marks 1936-2004Following the death of fishing legend Ivan Marks in December 2004, a memorial match to celebrate his life is to take place on one of his favourite venues this summer. The match will be held at The Glebe Fishery in Leicestershire and is certain to attract a sell out field of 160 anglers in what will likely become an annual event.

The match will raise money for Papworth Hospital at the request of Ivan's family and is likely to take place in mid May. Papworth hospital carried out Ivan's heart transplant 11 years ago.

Keep an eye on Fish South East and the national angling press for more details.
