VENUES REVIEW - OCTOBER 2004 - by John Cruse

"I'm 20yrs old and have been fishing as long as i can remember!!! I regularly fish Royal Berkshire fisheries, Windsor and have always been hugely successful. I usually fish lake 2 with artificial trout pellets and have had many large carp to 22lb, although i believe they go bigger in lake 1.

Another fishery i have visited 4 times this summer is Beaver Farm. On each occasion i did a 24 hour stint and Snipe and Tuscany lake and blanked both times. In fact, i didn't see a single fish come out of the lake, although i did hook into something very large at 3.00am on my first visit only to loose this. On speaking to many anglers they all seemed to believe the lakes were over fished, rarely stocked and the swims are very close together. All the fish photos on show also seemed very old and many anglers believe they were taken elsewhere. I'm not one to gossip but this was the opinion of at least a dozen anglers on the lakes.

Finally, one fishery i have not seen on your site is Tri-Lakes in Sandhurst. I have fished here for many yrs and it is a great fishery for carp and pike. My PB of 24lb came out of here and in a day i can usually expect many double figure carp and some very large bream and tench. Unfortunetely the old owner, a very nice chap, has sold the place to another fella who doesn't have a clue, or care much, for fishing. He's put the price right up to £16 a day, and you can only fish 9.00am to 6.00. Like myself, many anglers have left the water, (i now fish the yately complex) but if anyone fancies it, its very underfished and the carp fall for anything!!"

Edited by Paul Orford, Nov.4th '04 - Many thanks to John for taking the time to contact Fish South East and let us know about the three venues mentioned. Thanks also for your kind words about the site John. Good luck with your fishing in the coming months.
