I am 14 years old at the moment and I was browsing on the internet and I
found this [Fish South East - ed.] about lakes in my local area [I live in Slough]. I saw the article
about your luck at Farlows. [Don't you mean lack of luck! - ed.] I have fished Farlows quite alot and have found
that it is not an easy lake to fish, but is by no means impossible. I have
been taking advice from other carp fisherman on how to fish the lake and I
have found out some interesting facts.
1. Farlows lake saw alot of spodding a couple of years ago, and divers went
down to check the bottom and found a thick carpet of boilies. This explained
the lack of fish being caught. But last year or the year before they removed
all the boilies and the number of fish being caught massivly increased.
[This does make some sense as i have been having better luck recently].
2. When people say cast to the fish, it is a very good thing to take into
consideration. I have caught many carp from Farlows lake by casting to the
fish and seems a very good way to learn about the lake. You will notice from
where the fish are most of the time where the main features are.
3. When it comes to tactics, well thats a very complex matter. Any rig
can work but i have found that sink tubing, an inline weight and a hair rig
will work fine. If you try this i suggest using pva tape with 6-10 boilies.
A single hook bait is better because it is what the fish are used to seeing
so try 1 boilie on the hair and not 2. With those tactics i have had alot of
carp from Farlows Lake ranging from my smallest of 4 pounds to my biggest of
27 pounds, I have also found the dynamite bait " the source " is a good bait
for Farlows. As for fishing for the smaller fish i.e rudd roach and bream
etc. normal tactics are quite fine. I hope this has helped you in anyway and
i wish you all the luck in fishing Farlows or wherever you go in the future !
Edited By Paul Orford @ Fish South East, August 2005 - Thanks to Luke for submitting his thoughts on Farlows Lake and for sharing his tips with us. Farlows is not an easy lake to fish and he must be doing something right with a PB of 27lb. Thanks again and well done Luke. I look forward to hearing about your first 30 !!!
